If you check this box, the installation directory will be prevented from being deleted, and in this manner, you will be allowed to convert the data from an existing phpBB2 on your account to the newly installed phpBB3.

Please, note that the conversion will bring over only the registered usernames and posts. It will not convert any existing attachments, themes.

All you need to do for manual phpBB3 installation is to click the tab Convert when the installation is completed.

In both cases, you should perform the conversion by accessing the install directory via your web browser. Depending on the exact place of phpBB3 installation, the exact URL will be similar to:

http://yourdomain.com/phpbb3/install

You should click on the Convert tab in the menu area above:

Conversion from phpBB2 only is available as an option at this point.

You have to enter the details required for your old phpbb2 installation on the next page. You can find the database details in the config.php file for the old forum. The path to the forum should be relative to the new location at which you install phpbb3. After supplying the correct details, you click on the button Begin Conversion. This page is a sample one with the filled details:

The conversion will be done automatically and no changes will be made to your old forum.

Upon completion the script may request the search index for the newly installed forum to be rebuilt. You can do this from the administrator backend.

At this point, the ''install'' folder should be deleted, as you will no longer need it. As soon as you perform those steps, you will complete the conversion from phpBB2 to phpBB3.
